Wellington, Fla. – March 24, 2017 – David Matisz dominated the 6-year-old Developing Jumper classes during Week 10 of the Winter Equestrian Festival with Donna Gumbin’s Calido Son. The pair took home first- and second-place finishes, as well as the division championship. The duo has been together since August of 2016 and hope to keep the winning momentum as they begin the 6-year-old Developing Jumper finals during Week 12, heading into the summer season as a force to be reckoned with.
On Thursday, March 16, Matisz piloted Calido Son (Calido X Calirmo) to a win in the $200 6-Year-Old Developing Jumper class with a flawless round. Matisz is not surprised with the dapple-grey gelding’s performance this winter season.

“I bought him and another young horse from a friend in Hungary and had them imported in August of 2016,” recalled Matisz. “From the beginning, he just seemed to be a really uncomplicated horse. He was already competing in the 5-Year-Old classes, which gave him some more experience.”
The next day, Matisz and Calido Son returned to the Mogavero Ring and put in another great round. The horse-and-rider combination earned the red ribbon, missing first place by .5 seconds in the competitive jump off.
“He (Calido Son) has been so great from the beginning,” said Matisz. “He handled the transition from Virginia to Wellington well and was ready to show almost right away. I am looking forward to showing him in the championship classes during Week 12 and then continuing in the division all summer.”
Matisz is planning to show his string of competitive horses, while also coaching clients in the amateur divisions throughout the summer at the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival and Tryon Summer Series.
Matisz blends his knowledge and passion for equestrian sports with a straightforward teaching approach to create a training program geared to the achievement of quantifiable personal goals. Matisz also frequently imports ready to go, amateur-friendly hunters and jumpers.
