Custom Saddlery Rewards Most Valuable Riders Coast-to-Coast

: David Blake wins the Custom Saddlery MVR Award at the Las Vegas High Roller CDI-W

Aiken, SC (January 26, 2017) — Custom Saddlery is known for presenting its Most Valuable Rider (MVR) Award to equestrians who go the extra mile to attain excellent scores in the dressage ring and show exemplary horsemanship. This month, the celebrated saddle company awarded two deserving riders with the Custom Saddlery MVR Award – Michael Klimke and David Blake. Klimke, who travels from Germany to compete in the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Florida, and Blake, who is based in Encinitas, California, are shining examples of excellence both in and out of the saddle

Klimke received the MVR Award while competing Lemony’s Nicket in the gelding’s first time in the CDI Prix St. Georges at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida. Klimke was proud of the nine-year-old Hanoverian (Londonderry x Wild Flower, Weltmeyer), owned by Leslie and John Malone of Harmony Sporthorses. “He’s a super horse,” Klimke said. “I’m glad to have him.”

Klimke’s dedication to the sport of dressage is revealed partly in the distance he travels to compete in the world’s longest-running winter dressage circuit – Klimke ventured from his home country of Germany to Florida to show in the 12-week series. Klimke’s involvement in the sport is also apparent in the top quality horses he is campaigning at the Wellington show grounds. In addition to Lemony’s Nicket, he is competing on two Grand Prix horses and a seven-year-old that he hopes to have ready for the Prix St. Georges by the end of the season. “I want to bring this one in the Small Tour and the other two in the Grand Prix and see how far we can come,” Klimke said.

Both Klimke and Blake were honored with the Custom Saddlery MVR Award, which included a ribbon and embroidered saddle pad, for their accomplishments in the dressage world this January.

Blake received the MVR Award for his outstanding results at the Las Vegas High Roller CDI-W early in this month. Blake competed Pippa Bird’s Heide Spirit, a seven-year-old Oldenburg mare (Zach x Honigbluete, Sir Donnerhall I), in the CDI Young Horse class 7-Year-Old division, and Melanie Pai’s Ikaros, a 17-year-old Danish Warmblood (Akinos x Fernande, Fernando) in the CDI Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle.

“Heide really stepped up to the plate in this competition,” Blake said. “She showed a level of maturity and poise in the show ring that was unprecedented for her. I think the future for this young mare is extremely bright.” Blake plans to campaign the mare in the 7-Year-Old FEI test with the hope of competing abroad, and to continue competing Ikaros in the World Cup CDIs.

“I was really touched to be given an award from Custom Saddlery,” said Blake, who has been riding in Custom saddles since 2005. “After all these years riding in Custom, it meant so much to me to be recognized by the company at such a prestigious show. I truly can say these are the best saddles,” he said. Blake and all his clients ride in Custom saddles, and he is currently riding in the Revolution model. Blake works with Custom Saddlery saddle fitter Alis Carbone to make sure his saddles are always in top condition, with the perfect fit for him and his horses. Carbone is the Custom saddle fitter for the San Diego area, Arizona, and New Mexico.
