AMARILLO, (AQHA) – PJ Chick In Black is the red-hot name after her fastest-qualifying performance last week in trials for the $2.4 million All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs. So much so, pollsters in this week’s latest AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Top-10 Poll for 2-year-olds moved her up two spots to become the division’s new No. 1.
With a smashing 5¾-length victory her trial race, PJ Chick In Black clocked in at :21.081, which bested all 253 All American trials aspirants. Last week’s No. 1-rated juvenile, One Dashing Eagle, also qualified for the All American final as the sixth-fastest contender and sits at No. 2 in this week’s poll.
Heritage Place Futurity (G1) winner BP Cartels Alibi, ranked at No. 4 this week in the 2-year-old rankings, also earned an All American Futurity finals berth as the eighth-fastest qualifier. That means that the current No. 1-, No. 2- and No. 4-ranked juveniles are set for a Labor Day showdown in the lucrative final at Ruidoso.
As for the older horses, Cold Cash 123 remains the unanimous No. 1 this week, but Rainbow Derby (G1) winner Ochoa moved up one spot to No. 3 following his All American Derby trial performance last week. He is the only active member of the Top 10 qualified to the $2.2 million All American Derby (G1) final. Meanwhile, Sunday’s Golden State Derby (G1) at Los Alamitos figures to have some impact on the poll next week for the 3-year-olds and older.
