HOUSTON/KATY (NRBC) – The largest National Reining Breeders Classic Non Pro class ever, concluded Tuesday, April 17, at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas. Four-time NRBC Champion Mandy McCutcheon drew up on the first day to set the leading pace with a 224 and won the Non Pro Preliminaries, besting 181 other entries.
Riding Always Gotyer Gunsup, by Colonels Smoking Gun out of Always A Dunit, McCutcheon earned $8,684 for the Non Pro preliminary win.
Alejandro Gonzalez topped Non Pro Levels 1-3 in the preliminary round with a 220.5 riding Wimp Daddy, by Wimpys Little Step out of Cody Kay Quixote. Gonzalez collected $2,819 for the three division wins.
Anne Reynolds piloted her horse Shiney And Verysmart, to a 221 to top the Non Pro Prime Time. Shiney And Verysmart is a 6-year-old gelding by Very Smart Remedy out of Shirley Shine. Reynolds took home $575 for the Non Pro Prime Time win.
The top 30 in the Non Pro Level 4 and the top 20 of the other four Non Pro divisions will compete in the clean-slate finals on Friday, April 20.
It took a 216.5 to make it back in the Non Pro Level 4 and Non Pro Level 3 finals. In the Non Pro Level 2, the magic number was a 213, and in the Non Pro Level 1, contestants needed a 211.5 or higher. Non Pro Prime Time competitors with a score of 215 also earned finals berths.
